...a local church for a global community
"Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith."
Hebrews 12.1-2"
We'll hear a lot about races and running this year as London
prepares to host the Olympics. We will aim to make the most
of this unique outreach opportunity, but the Olympics also reminds
me that the bible often likens our life to running a race.
Paul encourages Christians to "train ourselves for godliness"
like an athlete in training, and Hebrews reminds us to
"run with perseverance" keeping focussed on Christ.
Training, running and keeping going - all three are vital!
As we begin 2012 let's commit to training for God
(through times of prayer alone and together in homegroups),
to run a Christ-like race (through our daily witness)
and to keep going (and to keep each other going)
when we hit difficult times ahead.
Intentional Disciples - this course, running on our Kingdom Living evenings, will help us get a clearer picture of the way God originally designed us to be, and help us go deeper into relationship with Him, and how to grow as a community of believers as we move forward in our walk with Christ.
St Luke's Lunches - in the New Testament eating together was very much a part of worshipping together - it was where welcome and fellowship came together. So once a term we are planning a shared lunch together, after the 11am service. I believe as we deepen our relationships we will both deepen our faith and experience more of the abundant life we're meant to share. I look forward to seeing you there!
Fan the Fire - my hope is that our monthly Fan the Fire evenings will be a real highlight for us as a church, where we will hear stories of how God has helped us discover more of the abundant life, and where we will pray for God to send more of his life-giving Spirit so that all who come to St Luke’s will be able to say "Surely God is among you."
With love and best wishes
Adrian
