Every year during the winter months we open up our church hall on Saturday nights to the homeless, where we provide food and shelter to 35-60 guests.
The shelter runs at our location from 27th January to 7th April 2018.
This is an initiative that is supported by circuits of churches in the west London area, each taking a night in the week to host. Each circuit is under the umbrella of the charity Glass Door, which we support.
Please note, that guests are referred through Glass Door who have support systems in place for them, it is NOT a drop in centre. More information can be found at the bottom about services available to the homeless.
Every year we are so blessed to have a committed and diverse team serving at the shelter, who love and serve our guests.
Every Saturday our team will have a:
Overseeing food prep and cooking of the meal (typically a vegetarian soup to start, pasta bake, and dessert) to be ready on time as the guests are seated.
Front of House leader
Overseeing the setup and facilitation of the dining area, setting the tables, serving tea and coffee to the guests beforehand, helping serve the meal, and encouraging volunteers to sit and talk with the guests.
The heart of the team! We usually require 8-10 additional volunteers to either help in the kitchen (a smaller number due to space) or front of house.
Each Saturday there are Glass Doors staff members present who ensure that health and safety, and safeguarding procedures are followed. They also supervise overnight (volunteers leave at 9-9.30pm).
