Heather Hughes, Children & Community Missionary
heather@stlukeschurch.co.uk
Heather works alongside Louisa in our ministry to children and families. Heather's heart for God and people comes with the belief that He writes our stories from our youngest years and finds great value in His children. Having a gaggle of youngsters herself, Heather understands the current generation's desire to parent well and teach children not only the foundations of faith, but that God loves them so much.
Where are you from?
Originally from a small town in Nebraska. Studied at the University of Wyoming (Bachelor's in Speech Language Pathology). I then married my college sweetheart and moved to Noblesville, Indiana, where we have lived for the past 10 years. London is now home for our family.
What brought you to St Luke's?
Our family felt called to London 2 years ago when Grace Church announced a partnership with St Luke’s and Nairobi Chapel. We were not sure why London, or why we were being sent, but over the past 2 years, God has called us and paved the way for us to come as missionaries, specifically for the children and young families of London.
Why do you love Jesus?
I love Jesus because He not only loves me, but he LIKES me. He made me just the way He desired and He is delighted in me. He is near to me, He cares for me deeply, and He brings me peace. There is nothing that I can do to earn His love and there is nothing I can do to lose it. I am free because He first loved me.
Favourite thing/s to do in London?
I love to see and experience new things, so London is perfect. I have 3 young children (ages 3, 5, and 7), so exploring new parks, play grounds, and museums is on the top of our list right now. I also love that you can easily find a quaint coffee shop, authentic cuisine, open air markets, and fabulous bakeries within walking distance of our house! Good thing there is lots of walking.
Interesting fact about yourself...
I am very competitive. Most would describe me as a very kind person - but bring out a board game and it’s on!
You in a nutshell...
A wife, a mother, a friend. I deeply care for others and feel passionate to make everyone feel included, loved, and known. Give me grace if I forget your name, but I will not forget your story.
